Account book of an unidentified merchant working in Newton, N.C. Transactions are listed chronologically, and identify the account holder, goods purchased, and the amount owed or remitted. Goods listed in the account book include food, hardware, fabric, and clothing. Account holders received credit for either cash, goods, or services rendered to the merchant. The name M.A. Abernethy, a merchant also operating in Newton, appears often throughout the volume. Formerly known as Anonymous account book, 1866-1880.
